Post image for MyGolfSpy’s 10 Most Wanted Golf Courses – Texas

Texas, known for Lone Star Beer, an abundance of armadillos, and perhaps now, its apparent affinity for tribute-style golf courses (there are two on our list).

While the state’s golf reputation may not equal that of California, Florida, or the Carolinas, Texas is home to Nike’s Oven, Ben Hogan, UST, and, once upon a time, Adams Golf.

Its roots in the game are strong.

As you’ll see on this list, the state is also home to some spectacular golf courses.

To build our list of the Most Wanted Golf Courses in Texas we used our #Datacratic process and stats from our partners at the TheGrint, a golf handicap and stat tracking service, whose extensive database contains more than 120,000 golf course reviews submitted by average golfers like you.

“Cowboys Golf Club is the premier resort-style, daily-fee golf course in Texas. Inspired by excellence, an innovative golf and entertainment experience awaits you. As the world’s first NFL-themed golf course, this is the ultimate destination for business entertainment, corporate tournaments, executive meetings and special events.”

#2 La Cantera Golf Club (Palmer Course)

most-wanted-texas-2nd

“The Palmer Course at La Cantera, at just under 7,000 yards in length, might be one of the best kept secrets in the United States. Designed by Arnold Parmer, this golf course was carved right out of the beautiful hill country on the northwest side of San Antonio. The golf course is fun for new players and a real challenge for even the best players. The clubhouse is a perfect place to unwind and relax after your round of golf, while the views looking down on the 9th and 18th green are spectacular.”

#3 The Quarry Golf Club

“The front and back nines play very, very differently. The front nine is links styled like you might see in Scotland or Ireland. It features rolling hills, large, expansive bunkers and sloping greens. The back nine is where we get our name, The Quarry. 100 years ago it was an active, busy, limestone rock quarry pit providing stone for a growing San Antonio area. Today it is beautifully maintained 9 holes of golf for all of you to enjoy.”

#4 Texas Star Golf Course

“Texas Star is well-known for world class golf that is secluded in the midst of the bustling Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. This serene public golf course has a private feel with 275 acres of plush fairways, magnificent views, stacked rock ponds, waterfalls and natural woodlands. Please visit Texas Star for a truly unique golf experience, Texas style!”

#5 The Tribute Golf Club

“The Tribute’s brilliantly crafted par-72, 7,000-yard championship layout was designed by Tripp Davis & Associates to emulate holes from some of the greatest golf courses in Scotland, the birthplace of golf. Complete with wind-swept dunes, sea-washed grasses and other authentic Scottish links-style design elements, the course’s captivating variety of holes include the famous par-4 17th Road Hole; the breathtaking starting 1st and finishing 18th holes from St. Andrews.”

#6 Brackenridge Park Golf Course

most-wanted-texas-6th

“Brackenridge Park Golf Course is the heart of the Alamo City Golf Trail. Located just north of downtown San Antonio, this course is accessible for locals and visitors alike. The 2008 restoration of “Old Brack” re-routed the course to Tillinghast’s original layout and renewed its conditions to compete with San Antonio’s premier golf courses. Anyone playing golf in the San Antonio should tee it up at Brackenridge to enjoy its wonderful history and fun city-park layout.”

#7 Tierra Verde Golf Club

most-wanted-texas-7th

“Tierra Verde is the first golf course in Texas and the first municipal course in the world to be certified as an Audubon Signature Sanctuary. Walk onto the first tee and enter an environment where golf and nature come together in harmony. Opened in 1998, and carved from 250 acres of secluded terrain, the course’s unsurpassed layout encompasses a variety of natural settings and offers an outstanding playing experience on every hole”

#8 The Golf Club At Fossil Creek

most-wanted-texas-8th

“Just the way golf was meant to be, The Golf Club Fossil Creek will challenge golfers of every ability. Gorgeous rolling fairways and 18 testing holes all intertwined throughout streams created by Fossil Creek. This exclusive par 72 public course, designed by America’s foremost golf legend, Arnold Palmer, winds its way through 1150 acres of natural Texas terrain.”

#9 Tour 18 Golf Course Houston

most-wanted-texas-9th

“Imagine yourself playing on carefully simulated holes from some of the greatest golf courses in America. This collaboration of incredible replicas offers players a memorable experience of walking in the footsteps of some of the great legends before them.”

#10 The Bandit Golf Club (Bandit)

most-wanted-texas-10th

“While The Bandit is officially part of a housing subdivision, homes along the course are scarce. You’re more likely to see deer meandering beside Long Creek or a hawk swooping along the fairway than an oversized Texas mansion. A quiet secluded atmosphere permeates the course, providing a true escape from the city. The hilly terrain provides welcome relief for Texans used to playing the flatlands, which may explain why golfers come from as far away as Houston and Dallas to play The Bandit.”
